Your Dekalb Farmers Market Field Trip

The second and third graders explored Your Dekalb Farmers Market today in an immersive, active field trip. We started with a tour to introduce us to the many varieties of foods, spices and plants from all over the world. So many fun finds! Each student brought money to spend, so they started to plan for which items they could purchase within their budgets. Our guides explained how the market indicates country or state of origin, showed us where to find the prices, and helped the students find specific items they needed for their assignments. A close-up look at the live lobsters and crabs was a highlight!

Next, the students split into three groups for a fast-paced A-Z scavenger hunt throughout the market that had them posing in front of the flags that represented their teacher’s home countries, comparing prices, finding produce and spices that start with specific letters, even a little exercising in the candy aisle!

To wrap up, each student made their final selections and paid at the register, and then headed back to school to enjoy their treats.

Thank you to Your Dekalb Farmers Market for hosting our students for such an enjoyable and educational tour!
