Limitless Learning Explores Social Media & Kids

Our most recent Limitless Learning parent education session brought MIS families together for an important conversation on Social Media & Kids—a topic that continues to shape the wellbeing and development of our children and teens.

Led by Head of School Ashley Scott and K–8 Counselor Talia Auslin, the session offered parents practical insights into the most commonly used social media apps and the dangers and pitfalls these platforms can present for both teens and younger children. The conversation also explored how social media can impact youth mental health, including anxiety, self-esteem, sleep, attention, and social dynamics.

The discussion broadened to include the growing role of smartphones and device use, with guidance on ways parents can implement technology boundaries and parental controls, while also fostering healthy, ongoing conversations at home about responsible digital behavior. The workshop emphasized the importance of partnership between parents and children—building trust, communication, and shared expectations around technology.

Two influential books were referenced throughout the session- The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haight and Never Enough by Jennifer Breheny Wallace. Both books examine the emotional and psychological pressures facing today’s youth in an increasingly digital world.

We are grateful to Ashley Scott and Talia Auslin for their leadership and to our families for showing up with curiosity and commitment to their children’s wellbeing!
