MIS Annual Fund: Levels of support

Contributions at all levels prove vital to keeping MIS thriving. Major foundations look for community commitment when evaluating grants, and strong parent participation in annual funds counts for a lot. Last year our faculty achieved 100% participation, and this year our goal is to have our parents match this level of support. It shows that as a community, we’re all in for MIS.

Why philanthropy matters: FAQS

The culture you find at MIS wasn’t built by happenstance—it was constructed out of passion. The passion of our founder, of our teachers and administrators, yes. But more importantly, the unrelenting passion of our students and our families.

With over 35% of the students at MIS receiving needs-based financial assistance, your gift directly impacts our ability to support bright students with incredible potential who would otherwise not be able to attend MIS. Statistically, students of color are more than 250% less likely to be identified for advanced coursework or gifted programs than their white counterparts, and girls of any race are represented in advanced academic programs at 23%. Because of your gift, MIS can fulfill its imperative to actively work in our communities to identify, recruit, and retain traditionally underrepresented students.

MIS strives for 100% participation from its families, both as a vote of confidence for the school's mission and as a signal to others who are considering making a donation.  Corporations and foundations that consider a contribution look carefully at the percentage of parents who support the school.  Additionally, other community members, including board members, teachers, staff, and grandparents, are all encouraged to participate in the annual fund.

FAQs:

Is my financial contribution to Annual Giving mandatory?

Charitable giving is a private family decision and is never compulsory.  But our school’s many successes would not have been possible without the generosity of those who have given in the past.  We hope and trust that you will contribute according to your family’s means and make Midtown International School a philanthropic priority — we are all partners in our kids’ education.  We also strive for 100% participation in the annual giving campaign and look forward to achieving this goal each school year.

How much should I give?

We hope and trust that you will contribute according to your family’s means and make Midtown International School a philanthropic priority, as we are all partners in our children's education.  All gifts are significant.  Most importantly, the goal is to have 100% parent/family participation.

I give a great deal of my volunteer time to the school. Am I also expected to donate to the Annual Fund ?

We value the time and talent our families devote to Midtown International School.  But we need and value every family’s support in every way — with volunteerism, time, effort and monetary contributions, all of which ensure that the vision and mission of the school is supported and made possible. We ask you to reflect on whether you have both time and money to contribute; if so, we ask you to share them generously.  If not, please donate whatever feel comfortable doing so.

Are there ways to give to the Annual Fund without making a substantial donation at one time?

If you choose not to make one substantial donation, you may either make a pledge or smaller “participatory” gift to help us reach our goal of 100% community participation.

If we give to other Midtown International School fundraisers do we still need to contribute to the Annual Fund?

Participation in any school fundraiser is deeply appreciated.  But, like all other independent schools, the Annual Giving Campaign is a separate budget component in the school’s financial planning.  It is also the only fund that is considered when foundations are considering grant opportunities.

If you have any other donation questions, please email Lynn Thatcher, Community Relations/Development Coordinator, at lthatcher@misatl.org
